New PAYE Tax Bands (e.d 1st January 2017)

There are tax bands for PAYE because taxpayers earn New PAYE Tax Bands were widened yet again by 10%. Thus, the tax rates were pushed 10% higher. For example, the lowest tax band at 10 % tax rate moved to kshs 147,580 per year while the highest tax band at 30 % tax rate moved over to kshs 564,709 and over per year.

The following is a table of the new PAYE bands.

Per Year (kshs)                        Tax rate

  1. On the first       147,580             10 %
  2. On the next      139,043             15 %
  3. On the next     139,043               20 %
  4. On the next     139,043               25 %
  5. Income over     564,709              30 %

Besides, personal tax relief was increased to ksh 16,896 per year.
